The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), released a statement claiming that 106,256 persons were involved in road accidents in the country from 2019 to 2021.
The FRSC released the data documenting road accidents between January 2019 and December 2021, explaining that 91,483 persons sustained different degrees of injuries in the accidents recorded.
According to the data, this year has the highest cases of road accidents, with a record of 10,637 accidents involving 35,791 people. A total of 5,101 people died, while 30,690 people were with different injuries.
It further revealed that Ogun State had the most dangerous accidents in the country, with a total of 1,026 cases in 2021. Also noting that Bayelsa State was the safest of all, recording the lowest with just 40 cases.
The Public Relations Officer of the FRSC, Bisi Kazeem speaking yesterday, claimed that the accidents were attributed to overspeeding, violation, drunk driving and mechanical defect.
According to him, he stated that the corps is broadening the scope of sensitisation to change bad driving behaviours, claiming that it has introduced policies that would eliminate road crashes.
