Authorities have announced the death of a 13-year-old who was hospitalized on Thursday following exposure to fentanyl had died on Saturday.
The Hartford police in Connecticut, United States, indicated that contact with the fentanyl by the teenager and two others triggered overdose reactions.
It was disclosed that the student's death was the result of the overdose and that the case is under investigation.
The Police statement reads; "The victim became unconscious on Thursday morning at a public prep and magnet school. CPR was administered and he was hospitalized."
"Two other boys who complained of dizziness were also hospitalized after coming into contact with the potent opioid."
"The substance was tested and it was confirmed that it was fentanyl. It is believed that the three teens came in contact with the fentanyl at the same time."
Authorities have put the school on lockdown and searched the premises. The Hartford Courant later reported that nearly 40 bags of fentanyl which were stashed in two classrooms and the gym were recovered.
