130 School Dropouts Get Entrepreneurial Training In Borno

130 school dropouts in Borno State have received entrepreneurial skills training courtesy of the state government.

The Commissioner for Education, Lawan Abba-Wakilbe, disclosed this at the graduation of the first set of trainees of the 'Second Chance Women/Girls Skills Entrepreneurship Programme' in Maiduguri.

According to Abba-Wakilbe, the entrepreneurial programme which was organised to promote self-reliance and reduce social vulnerability among women who have dropped out of school was backed by Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Projects (MCRP).

”Second chance women/girls skills acquisition school, which is a project of the Borno Ministry of Education, targets the vulnerable and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) women who are victims of the Boko Haram insurgency who dropped out of schools.

”The graduands, who were enrolled in February 2022, completed their training and each went home with a certificate, start-up pack donated by the MCRP and Dignity Kits donated by Multi Aid and Charity initiative,” he said.

Speaking during the event, the Wife of the Borno Governor, Dr Falmata Zulum, lauded the ministry for the initiative and encouraged the beneficiaries to employ the skills they acquired and the start-up packages they received for their benefit and for those around them.

Zulum also complimented the MCRP for supporting the initiative by providing start-up packages for the trainees.

She thanked the group for renovating the school and for donating Dignity kits to the women.

In his remark, Malam Babazannah Abdulkarim, the Project Coordinator of MCRP, implored to the government to provide shop spaces in the shopping complex in the metropolis to aid the beneficiaries in their trade.
