150 Shops Razed In Another Fiery Kano Market Fire

About 150 make-shift shops at the Kachako Central Market in Takai Local Government Area of Kano State went down in a fiery fire on Monday.

Speaking about their efforts to contain the spread of the fire, Kano State Fire Service, through its image maker, Saminu Abdullahi said they saved about 800 other shops from the fire.

“We received a distress call at Takai Fire Station at about 01:13 pm from the Local Government Security Service Unit and we immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 01:21 pm to stop the fire from spreading to the other shops.

“The dimension of the market premises is about 2,000 feet by 1,500 feet used as a central market.

“We successfully saved about 800 shelters from the fire’’ the state,“ the statement said.

According to him, a light from one or more of the numerous smokers at the market is suspected to have caused the fire.

The fire service has since the onset of the dry season advised residents on proper use of naked fire.

However, reports of fire outbreaks, at homes and public places continue to rise in Kano.

Though the last two reported fire incidences indicated no life was lost, another fire at a residential home killed two girls and their aunt in the state.
