17,600 Teachers To Participate In Exams, Two States Excluded

Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), a body responsible for the recruitment of teachers in Nigeria, has spoken out concerning the qualification examinations for teachers, saying that no fewer than 17,600 candidates across the country have registered and will participate in 2020’s qualifying examinations exercise.

Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, Registrar and Chief Executive, further confirmed this, adding that the tests have been slated to take place from November 12 to 14.

In an interview with the media on Tuesday in Abuja, he specifically disclosed that Osun State tops with 1,727 candidates; Adamawa State – 1,623; Nasarawa State – 934, and the FCT – 850.

Prof.Ajiboye further disclosed that states like Jigawa and Ekiti states were excluded from the CB (computer-based) examination because of their failure to meet the council’s requirement of 100 candidates per state.

He also stressed that the council, in compliance with COVID-19 provisions, stretched the examination dates so as to ensure social distancing as demanded by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Prof. Ajiboye in reference to previous years stated that in 2019, three batches of the test were conducted but has now been reduced to two in 2020 due to coronavirus.

“The effect of the pandemic was so much that learning almost ceased, but for the emergency remote learning techniques like radio and television, we adopted.

“When we started the computer-based test in 2018 it was as if we knew there was going to be COVID-19 which would change the way teaching and learning is conducted.”

The professor expressed satisfaction, adding that technology is key to learning in today’s educational world.
