17 people had a close shave with death in a collision on the Ilesa-Ipetu highway, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Osun.
In a statement issued on Friday in Osogbo, the spokesperson for the command, Agnes Ogungbemi, quoted Paul Okpe, the Osun Sector Commander, as making this disclosure.
Two vehicles collided, according to Okpe, causing the accident, which occurred at around 11:10 a.m. near Km 3 Omo Ijesa Bend.
"We received a distress call at about 11:13 a.m of an accident that occurred on Ilesa – Ipetu highway.
"A green Nissan pick-up with number plate FG 154 K20 had head-on collision with a white Vannet Nissan with number plate KSF 143 DE.
"The accident was severe but we have been able to clear all gridlock to avoid any inconvenience.
He claimed that there were three injured victims as a result of the collision, which involved 12 males and 5 female adults.
"Two male adults and one female got injured and were taken to Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa for further treatment .
"The accident happened due to wrongful overtaking and heavy speeding,” Okpe said.
He claims that the command will take swift action to penalise any driver who violates the rules of the road.
