No fewer than 18 people, mostly children, have lost their lives in a boat that capsised in Katsina State
The tragedy occurred in Mai'adua Local Government Area of the state.
At the time of filing this report, six other people were reported missing from the event.
While the spokesperson of the Nigerian Police command in Katsina, SP Gambo Isah was not reachable, AllNews gathered that one Lawal Sakatare confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.
Sakatare revealed that 24 persons were on the boat when it capsized, adding that majority of those that drowned were children.
He stated that, “Fourteen of them were from Tsabu village while four were from Dogon Hawa village."
He added that 15 of the deceased were buried in the early hours Thursday in the LGA while six others are still missing.
However, a search and rescue operation is still ongoing in the river, but the Police are yet to make an official statement.
