18 Die As Bandits Attack Three Local Government In Kaduna

No fewer than 18 persons died when bandits’ attacked Giwa, Chikun and Igabi Local Government areas of Kaduna State.

This was confirmed by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement on Wednesday.

In recent times the three Local Government Areas have been under constant attacks by bandits.

According to the commissioner, the bandits killed seven people in Anaba village in Igabi local government area. He listed their names as Ali Musa, Isa Sharehu, Tijjani Isa, Auwalu Shehu, Hashim Abdullahi, Hassan Saidu and Umar Rilwanu.

Many houses in the community were also burnt down by the bandits, as well as storehouses and barns. They also rustled no fewer than 20 cows during the operation.

Also, the bandits killed eight persons at the Barinje village in Chikun local government area. The names of those that died were Sunday Gwamna, Lawal Jizo, Salha Barau, Sabo Barau, Umaru Barau, Muhammadu Dan Azumi, Zailani Dogara and Jikan Gambo.

Some residents of the village were also abducted, cattle were rustled during the attack. An unspecified number of injured victims were recorded and receiving treatment I hospitals.

According to report, the bandits emerged from the Buruku area and raises the villages in cattle rustling operation. In the process, one Danjuma Isa from neighboring Ungwan Kanti village was killed, when he was walking down to Kwarten Rigasa.

The third village invaded was Sanhu Makera village in Birnin Yero of Igabi local government area and killed a farmer identified as Yakubu Abdullahi, in the village. Another person was also killed by an unknown assailant in unusual circumstances, at the Ministerial Pilot Housing Estate, Millenium City in Chikun local government area.

Aruwan maintained that the attacks were on soft targets at Anaba and Barinje villages in Igabi and Chikun LGAs respectively coming after the killings of several armed bandits through targeted air operations.

The commissioner disclosed that the air platforms had earlier conducted armed reconnaissance around Anaba village during, in which the crew observed houses on fire and locals migrating to nearby settlements.

He further said that many bandits on motorcycles were neutralized by troops at Kankomi village and neighboring communities including Kuyanbana forest while many of them escaped with bullet wounds.

The security agencies on the other hand appealed to the communities to report anyone found with suspicion bullet wounds to the Security Operations Room.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai had expressed sadness over the unfortunate incidents and had sent his condolences to the families of those killed in the attack. He offered prayers for the repose of their souls and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured ones.
