Senate President Ahmad Lawan has been announced as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the ruling party.
The announcement was made on Monday by the party's National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, at the meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja.
Other presidential hopefuls like Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Dr Kayode Fayemi, and David Umahi, among others, will however be allowed to contest the primary at the convention taking place on Tuesday at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
According to the NWC, other aspirants must be given a level playing ground to compete.
Lawan emerging as the party's consensus candidate goes against the position of 11 APC northern governors who recently decided that power should shift to the south after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
