2023: Atiku Rally Invaded By Hoodlums, Supporters Injured

The campaign rally for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar in Gombe was invaded by hoodlums on Monday, leaving three with injuries.

The incident reportedly involved a local gang called Kalare Boys and Atiku's supporters, and three vehicles, a bus, a car and one Keke NAPEP were damaged after they were ambushed along Pantami Stadium Road.

Speaking on the incident, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Usman Muritala disclosed that he was not aware of the development since he was not included in the campaign planning.

“I was not on the podium and was only there as an official of the party so I sat like every other person to watch the whole show.

"There is a division in the party, a very big one", he shared.

Per reports, the skirmish began when Atiku left with his entourage through Gate Number Two of Pantami Stadium for Bauchi.

Wielding cutlasses,  swords, clubs and other weapons, the Kalare Boys descended on the party supporters who were on their way home.

The police who were charged with manning Gate One of the stadium quickly sent a detachment of armed policemen to the second gate to provide security for supporters, who were rushing back into the arena for safety.

The PDP supporters became stranded at the stadium while waiting for the police to restore order as the hoodlums barricaded the route to Pantami Market and Government House, attacking passersby.

Some of the supporters had no choice but to attach themselves to the police vehicles to avoid being attacked by the Kalare Boys.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Abubakar said that he was attending a programme and could not confirm the ugly incident.
