2023: Buhari's De-Popularity, Tinubu's Loss

The 2023 Presidential election, from all indications, promises to be one of the hottest contested in the history of Nigeria.

The opposition, PDP that was the ruling party for sixteen years feels it is time to return to power after just eight years as an opposition.

The now ruling APC that was birthed purposely to defeat the PDP feels it must not lose power so soon.

On a more personal level, the party's Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has many times made it clear that it is his turn to rule.

Normally, there could be better chances for the APC to win given President Buhari's massive, selfess supporters but they are all gone now.

The recent response from Katsina people is a clear indication that President Buhari has lost his popularity in his home town, region and certainly the country.

Prior to the 2015 elections, Buhari was beyond desperate to be the President, the people were firmly in support given the Boko Haram menace.

The insecurity made almost every Northerner believe in Buhari's ability to 'help'.

The poor, the less privileged, the students, and their parents, the CSOs, the security personnel, all were unanimous in delivering massive votes for a man they believed in.

But today in Katsina, a police officer was almost killed by ordinary Nigerians, just for being there to make the streets passable for Buhari.

In a viral video, a good citizen was heard telling him to run, and he ran like his life depended on it. Actually, it did.

Kano citizens have disclosed that they regretted voting for Buhari because he has failed them.

"We bought scratch cards to find his campaign", one lamented.

It could be safe to say Buhari has lost support in Kano, apparently it seems the same has happened in Katsina.

The Kano State Government has given some insight to this as it sent a letter to the Presidency 'postponing' an earlier scheduled visit. The government confirmed this on Saturday.

Also, the APC Deputy Governorship candidate for February election in the state, Murtala Sule Garo on Friday was heard saying, "This is not a military era, people should be allowed to spend their hard earned money."

Speaking to AllNews Nigeria on Saturday, a political analyst and Chairman, Pay it Forward Initiative, Comrade Sani Garba said: "Buhari disappoints Northerners."

According to him, if care is not taken, this will affect the number of votes Tinubu gets from the region.

Many around this region are not only disappointed but have begun to hate a man they once loved with all their hearts.
