2023 Census: Jigawa Extends Schools Resumption Date

The Jigawa State Government has extended the resumption date for schools in the state due to the population and housing census expected to hold next week.

The schools were initially to resume on Monday, May 1, 2023, but due to the census, the resumption has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 9.

The directive was given on Friday by the State's Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Dr Lawan Yunusa Danzomo.

This was contained in a statement by Wasilu Umar Ringim, spokesperson of the state's education ministry.

"As a result of the forthcoming National Census Exercise scheduled to commence next week across the country, the Jigawa State Ministry of Education Science Technology wishes to inform parents, heads of public and private schools in the state that, the resumption of schools for the Third Term Academic session, scheduled on Monday has been shifted to next Monday the 9th of May, 2023," Ringim stated.

The commissioner explained that all Day and Boarding students were expected to be in school on May 9, for the commencement of lessons.

According to the statement, the decision was taken to enable the teachers and students to be counted during the census exercise.

The commissioner further appealed to parents to ensure that their children resume on the stipulated date, adding that the school authorities would not accept lateness without a genuine and introductory letter from the education ministry.
