The national chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC) under which Omoyele Sowore had declared to run for Nigeria's presidency in 2023, Dr Leonard Nzenwa has said that the party had disowned Sowore.

Nzenwa stated that the party had expelled Sowore in 2019, hence he can not run for president under the party.

This was made available to newsmen on Tuesday by the national publicity secretary of the party, Sylvester Cletus in Abuja.

The statement added that it became eminent to clear the air and let people know that the party had neither given consent nor was aware of the declaration under its umbrella.

It further added that Sowore was aware of his membership status at the party.

The statement read that "The National Secretariat of the party in Abuja has cleared the air that Sowore’s purported intention to contest for president on AAC platform when he knew he had long been expelled from the party shows it is a joke taken too far.”

The party noted that while it supports someone credible, responsible, patriotic, charismatic and shares the party's vision, it will not support someone like Sowore.

The statement explained further that their tickets were not for people disrupting national peace, unity and development of the country.

While welcoming new members to the party, it reiterated its stand disowning Sowore.

The party started, “That is one reason AAC will not offer tickets to its expelled members, jokers with a myopic view of national development and political buccaneers masquerading as democrats to hoodwink unsuspecting members of the public."
