2023 Election: Adamawa REC Suspended By INEC

2023 Election: Adamawa REC Suspended By INEC

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari has been suspended by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Yunusa-Ari's suspension is a result of his illegal declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Aisha Dahiru Binani, as the governor-elect in last weekend’s rerun election.

The declaration was voided by the commission after the announcement was made and the latest update comes with an instruction to stay away from the office of the commission in Yola, Adamawa State.

The suspension is contained in a letter signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony and dated April 17, 2023.

The Adamawa Administrative Secretary in the state has been charged to take over the commission's affairs.

“I hereby convey the Commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa State should stay away from the Commission’s office in Adamawa State immediately until further notice.

“The Administrative Secretary has been directed to take full charge of INEC, Adamawa State with immediate effect”, part of the letter reads.
