2023 Election: Discord In South-West APC As Supporters Pitch Fayemi Against Tinubu

2023 Election: Discord In South-West APC As Supporters Pitch

Ahead of the 2023 Presidential election, discord looms in the camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in South Western region as supporters of Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi are pitching him against former Lagos State Governor  Bola Tinubu.

Declaring support for Fayemi, the Ekiti state chapter of the party revealed that it will force Fayemi to enter the 2023 Presidency race.

Recall that supporters of the former Governor of Lagos state Tinubu had earlier inaugurated “The South-West Agenda (SWAGA)” ahead of Tinubu's 2023 presidential election ambition.

Tipping Fayemi to emerge as the next President, Paul Omotosho, the party's chairman in Ekiti state said that it was time for the state to produce the country's president.

Further stating that the state chapter of the party would no longer play second fiddle in the south-west’s politics, Omotosho said:

“On the 2023 presidency, the time has come for president to come from Ekiti. That is why we are pleading with you to support governor Fayemi.

“Though Governor Fayemi has never said he wanted to contest, we will force him to plunge into the race, because of his competence, dedication, and loyalty to APC.”

While the political big wigs have earlier denied campaigning ahead of the 2023 Presidential election, their supporters have however been pushing to further seal their spot at the 2023 Presidency race.

While it is believed that Tinubu will be one of the major contenders of the party's 2023 presidential election ticket, no one will be quick to forecast that opposition will arise against him from the South-Western region of the party, considering the fact that he has a great influence on the party's activities in the South-western region.
