The immediate past Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has been fined N10 million by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The fine was awarded against Keyamo on Monday for filing a frivolous suit against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In his ruling, Justice James Omotosho awarded N5 million each in favour of Atiku and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), leading to an aggregate of N10 million against Keyamo.
Describing the suit as “frivolous, vexatious and abuse of court processes”, Omotosho instructed that the fine be “at 10 per cent per annum until the cost is finally liquidated”.
The development comes after Atiku filed an oral application through his counsel, Benson Igbanoi and that of the ICPC, Oluwakemi Odogun.
Per the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Keyamo had filed the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/84/2023 on January 20.
He had sought an order compelling the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), ICPC, and the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, to probe and prosecute Abubakar.
