The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has frowned against spreading of fake news and hate speech ahead of Saturday election.
The governor lamented over the rate at which the menace of fake news is rising amongst the populace.
He said the peddling of hate speech and political incitement has become a threat to the peace of the state.
Yahaya added that fake news, hate speech and inciting comments during campaigns have remained a threat to the peaceful conduct of elections across the the world.
While stressing the need for a collective effort in the fight against fake news, he urged stakeholders to avoid spreading of fake news or inciting comments that would affect the conduct of the 2023 election.
Yahaya made this known on Friday while addressing the people of Gombe in a statewide broadcast.
"The scourge of fake news, hate speech and campaigns of incitement continue to threaten the peaceful conduct of elections across the world.
"With the rise of social media platforms, they are becoming difficult to track and control.
"Combating this challenge is therefore our collective responsibility.
"I am calling on all stakeholders to desist from spreading and promoting fake news and hateful political propaganda, or participating in any conduct capable of undermining the credibility of the elections."
