2023 Elections: Accord Party Candidate Abducted By Gunmen In Rivers

Gunmen have kidnapped a Rivers State Assembly candidate in the election scheduled to hold on March 18, 2023.

Per reports, Chukwudi Ogbonna was abducted while driving in his car at Rumuigbo, near Port Harcourt on Monday night.

It was gathered that he was forced to come to a stop after the gunmen closed in on his vehicle, after which they whisked him away in the car.

The development was confirmed by Ogbonna's cousin, Ifeaka Nwakiri, in a chat with pressmen on Tuesday morning.

Nwakiri disclosed that the kidnapping has been reported to the police.

“They took him with his Mercedes car. We have reported the matter at the Kala Police station”, he shared. 

Despite the economic hardship brought about by fuel scarcity and the cash crunch, cases of abductions are still being recorded in different states.

On Monday, Ogun State Police Command confirmed that a journalist who had been kidnapped in Ogun, Olusegun Oduneye, had been rescued three days after he was taken.
