2023 Elections: Buhari Arrives Hometown

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in his hometown of Daura in Katsina State as he prepares to join millions of Nigerians in casting their ballots this weekend.

According to the President's spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, the president was received on Thursday by the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.

He said the President would cast his vote at a polling unit close to his country home in Daura, alongside his wife, Aisha Buhari, and other family members.

Shehu added that President Buhari, whose helicopter landed at 5:25 pm in Daura preparatory to the elections, would participate, not as a candidate as he had done since 2003 but as a voter.

The presidential aide said the president made sure that all members of his family and entourage, including security, protocol, and other staff, were registered to vote in Daura, knowing the importance of every single vote.

He said President Buhari had actively participated in the campaigns of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and presented the flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as his preferred successor, showcasing his record of statesmanship and contributions to economic development and democracy before heading home for the elections.
