2023 Elections: How Thugs Almost Killed Journalist In Kano

Ashiru Umar

A journalist named Ashiru Umar with Premier Radio almost died when thugs hit him from all angles while on election duty at Gidan Galadima ward, Galadanci in Gwale local government of Kano State.

In a chat with AllNews Nigeria, Ashiru Umar disclosed that some boys approached him and asked for his phone.

They suspected that he took photos of some women allegedly working to buy votes for the ruling APC.

"I told them I did not take any photos but they insisted that I give them my phone.

"I later said fine, I will give you the phone but if there are no videos or photos, you will give me back my phone," Umar shared.

"Then they started hitting me from all areas, I ran but one of them put his leg and I fell.

"They climbed on top of me and hit me with weapons", he lamented.

Umar said he was later rescued by elders in the area.

"The elders apologised, they said these are just kids", he disclosed.

The reporter said he was beaten in presence of over thirty policemen.
