The impasse between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Labour Party seems to have been resolved as the former has stated that it has nothing to hide.
Following the recent complaint from the Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, the commission met with its legal team and has stated its readiness to provide the necessary election documents.
According to INEC via its official Twitter handle, both parties met on Monday and discussed how the election documents would be made available for inspection.
Speaking on the issue, INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu said that the electoral body has nothing to hide, adding that documents at its headquarters would be given to the political party.
“INEC has nothing to hide. Documents available at the HQ will be given immediately.
“We are meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners today and we will discuss how other documents at the state level could also be made available to you speedily.
“The Labour Party’s Legal Team was at the INEC HQ to discuss modalities for obtaining the documents", he stated.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu today assured the Labour Party’s Legal Team that the Commission will provide all the documents it requested for to prosecute its case.
