The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Gombe State has tasked corps members deployed to the state to take part in ensuring fair and credible elections in 2023.

Ada Imoni, the State NYSC Coordinator said this while addressing corps members at the end of the 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Orientation Course in Amada community, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The Coordinator while urging the corps members to be non-partisan maintained that conducting an election to the satisfaction of the voters was a collective responsibility.

“We are approaching the 2023 general elections. Nigerians will go to the polls with the help of corps members as ad-hoc staff.

“The nation awaits a free, fair and credible election. It is our duty to carry out that national assignment honourably. I, therefore, call on you to be non-partisan,” she said.

She stated that security measures were in place to protect the staff and corps members who would participate in the exercise.

Imoni further advised the corps members to put to use the knowledge they had acquired during the orientation exercise and involve themselves in nation building.

She further urged them to be good representatives in their host communities, and avoid partisan politics, hate speech and membership of cult groups.

949 corps members comprising 510 females and 439 males were posted to various communities in Gombe State for their primary assignments, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
