2023: I Will Prioritise Education If Elected — Accord Presidential Candidate

2023: I Will Prioritise Education If Elected — Accord Pres

The presidential candidate of the Accord Party (AP), Christopher Imumolen has said he would prioritise education if elected president in the 2023 election.

Imumolen stated this during his interactive session with the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

The presidential candidate who spoke as an international entrepreneur attributed the numerous challenges faced by the country to education.

He maintained that the nation needed to educate its citizens and not wait for external help to solve her problems.

“The problem of education is a big one. I will prioritise education. I will be dedicating nothing less than 20 per cent of our budget just to education.

“As it is today, we have about just 6.5 per cent of our budget to education in a country that has over 18.5 million people out of school.

“We are in a country where 97.5 million Nigerians live in poverty.

“We are still a third-world nation and education must be given a priority.

“I will ensure that Nigerians have education at a very subsidised rate and if possible, free from primary to secondary school,” he promised.

Imumolen further said his election as president would open doors of opportunities for Nigerians, the youth especially.

He noted that it was time the youth assumed leadership positions while the elders consider advisory roles.

“It is time for the country to hand over its economy to young and energetic youths to manage like Canada and other developed countries.

“We need young and energetic youth who will work hard to bring back the glory of the country,” he expressed.

Speaking on the policy proposal by CAN for presidential candidates, Imumolen said the document was a reflection of his intentions.

He added that the country needed a leader with manifestations, not just manifestos.

As the 2023 presidential election draws near, candidates of different parties have begun revealing their plans for education if they emerge as president after the election.

Recently, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) promised to cancel registration fees for examinations by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and National Examination Council (NECO) if elected.
