Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday kickstarted the distribution of palliative to the vulnerable in Lagos State ahead of February 2023 election.
Sanwo-Olu claimed that the event, which took place at the Alausa Secretariat in Lagos, was necessary to lessen the impact of the hardship felt by the locals.
The weak and civil servants, among others, benefited from the activity, according to the NAN.
His colleague the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun had began the distribution of 400,000 food packages to select state citizens in response to recent shortages of fuel and newly designed Naira notes as well as protests,
The policy, according to the governor, who was represented by his deputy Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, is important to reduce hunger brought on by the Central Bank of Nigeria's currency redesign and other challenges related to fuel scarcity.
He said that the distribution is ongoing since the state's authorities will continue to contact religious institutions, non-governmental organisations, and other distribution channels.
“The measures became necessary to improve the situation among the vulnerable residents of the state.
“What is inside the boxes are different items for the consumption of the vulnerable society.
Earlier, Cecelia Dada, the state's commissioner for women's affairs and poverty alleviation (WAPA), emphasised that the state government was conscious of its citizens' welfare and the difficulties they were experiencing as a result of the naira swap and difficultly getting money.
