2023: Okorocha Drags Presidential Seat With Tinubu, Others

Imo Government Accuse Rochas, Uche Nwosu Of Fueling Banditry

Ahead of the 2023 general election, former governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha is set to battle the presidential seat with Bola Tinubu amongst other prominent politicians.

Okorocha’s intention for 2023 was announced in a letter read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday.

The lawmaker said he will address a world press conference on Monday, January 31, 2022, to officially declare his ambition to contest the presidency.

Okorocha is a senator representing the Imo West senatorial district on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The letter reads, “With 2023 elections drawing near as the days go by, our citizens are concerned about the quality of persons to run the affairs of our nation, one who can address some of their major concern which includes a detribalized Nigerian who can unite our country, a leader with a compassionate heart, who will care for the poor, the downtrodden and the masses of Nigeria.

“A visionary leader who can create wealth for our teeming populace, thereby addressing the issues of poverty, insecurity, and youth restiveness.

“It is as a result of these concerns that I wish to hold a world press conference on my intention to run for the office of the President of our dear Nation.

“I, therefore, wish to solicit for your prayers as I make known my intention.”

Recall that Okorocha first made an attempt at the presidency about 20 years ago on the platform of the now-defunct All Nigerians Peoples Party (ANPP).

In 2007, he aspired to clinch the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua

Eminent Nigerian politicians such as Ebonyi Governor, Dave Umahi, Senate Chip Whip, Orji Kalu have also declared their intention to run for president.
