Rihanna, the Barbadian singer and businesswoman, performed her latest single, ‘Lift Me Up’, at the 95th Academy Awards, held on Sunday.
The song is a tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman and is featured in the movie ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.
Wearing a babydoll top encrusted with diamonds, black pants, and leather gloves, Rihanna sang the song with a backing band while standing atop a grassy platform.
The power ballad, which is Rihanna’s first single after a long hiatus, was co-written by Tems and ‘Black Panther 2’ director Ryan Coogler and composer Ludwig Göransson, with Tems and Coogler penning the lyrics.
The song earned Rihanna her first-ever Oscar nod and was nominated for Best Original Song.
Although the award eventually went to ‘Naatu Naatu’ from ‘RRR’, Rihanna’s performance was one of the standout moments at the Oscars, earning her a standing ovation from the audience, including her superfan boyfriend A$AP Rocky.
