2023 Polls: NUJ Calls For Protection Of Journalists

2023 Polls: NUJ Calls For Protection Of Journalists

The National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Chris Isiguzo has asked government, political parties and politicians to ensure journalists are protected during the 2023 elections.

Isiguzo made the call in Gombe at a capacity-building workshop for journalists in the Northeast.

He lamented that journalists lose their lives, sustain injuries and have their equipment damaged while covering elections and yet little or nothing is done to ensure accountability for attacks on the media over the years.

Isiguzo, represented by his deputy Alhassan Yahya, asked stakeholders to forestall attacks before and during the polls.

“It is important that the issue of safety and security be given the needed attention by the government and other stakeholders.

“The safety of journalists is essential in the pursuit of the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of all citizens,” he stressed.

The NUJ President, however, charged Nigerians to actively participate in the 2023 general elections.
