2023 Presidency: Ebonyi Governor's Mind 'Made Up' On Leaving PDP For APC

2023 Presidency: Ebonyi Governor's Mind 'Made Up' On Leaving

The Governor of Ebonyi State Dave Umahi has revealed that his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is irrevocable.

According to Punch, the governor told the National Working Committee of the party that his decision to join the ruling APC was due to the party's plan to zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the South Eastern region.

Umahi revealed that he will be joining APC because the party was ready to zone the party's 2023 presidency ticket to the South Eastern region.

The Governor further explained that APC will protect the interest of the South East at the 2023 presidential election.

Led by the party's National Chairman, Uche Secondus, PDP's delegate was unable to convince the Ebonyi state governor to remain with the party.

While the governor was reported to have warmly welcomed the party's delegates, he, however, stuck with his decision to dump the party for APC.

“I think his mind was made up. We told him there was no need for him to abandon the party that had made him a deputy governor, state chairman of the party, two-time governor, and all that. But he refused.

“He wanted us to unilaterally zone the office of the Presidency to his area. We cannot do that. Parties are not run that way. He told us he was leaving. That is what we got from him," a source told the press after the meeting.
