2023 Presidential Election: Peter Obi Did Not Win — Soyinka [Video]

2023 Presidential Election: Peter Obi Did Not Win — Soyink

Renowned Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has stated that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, did not win the poll.

Soyinka, while speaking in a recent interview shared on X said Obi achieved something remarkable but did not even come second in the election.

Bola Tinubu's emergence as the winner of the 2023 presidential election is being challenged by Obi, LP, and PDP flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.

After the tribunal upheld Tinubu's victory, Obi and LP disclosed their intention to take their case to the Supreme Court.

Weighing in on the issue in the social media video, Soyinka while disclosing that he was in a monitoring organisation added that LP supporters are using 'force of lies' to pursue their claim.

“In the recent election, two things happened first of all. One party took over the Labour movement which is one of my favourite movements also.

“Then it became a regional party… whereas it was a marvellous bridge into the established two camps. Peter Obi achieved something remarkable there that he broke that mold. Yes.

“But, however, he did not win that election. I was in a monitoring organisation. I can say categorically that Peter Obi’s party came third not even second and the leadership knew it.

“But they want to do what we call in Yoruba ‘Gbajue’, that is force of lies…’ They’re going to send some of the hardliners, crowds, young people to the streets to demonstrate.

“I’m always ready to be part of such demonstrations but only on the banner of truth”, he said.
