2023: UNIJOS Holds Town Hall For Guber Candidates In Plateau

2023: UNIJOS Holds Town Hall For Guber Candidates In Plateau

Governorship candidates of several political parties in Plateau State were invited to a town hall organised by the University of Jos (UNIJOS) in preparation for the forthcoming elections.

Giving the reason for the town hall, the Vice-Chancellor of the university,  Prof. Tanko Ishaya, said it was arranged in conjunction with the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA) to create an avenue for the candidates to communicate with the university community.

Ishaya added that the town hall was also an avenue for the candidates to present their manifestoes to the people of Plateau State.

He added that the town hall was organised s the university's contribution to promoting peaceful and credible elections in the state and Nigeria at large.

“The university is the centre for any meaningful development in the society; a university is about the town and gown, not an isolated ivory tower.

“Organising an event like this is important for the development of Plateau and Nigeria as a whole.

“We are non-partisan and so what we are doing here today is purely an exercise to give the candidates an opportunity to tell Plateau what they have to offer if elected

“It will also provide an opportunity for members of the university community and indeed Plateau citizens to probe the candidates and enable them to make a good choice," he said.

The VC appreciated the candidates for heeding the university's call, noting that the gesture showed they all working in favour of the state.

He urged them to be peaceful and maintain the spirit of fairness as they go about campaigning.

“Let me remind all of you that you are brothers and friends, you should remain friends and brothers during and after the elections,” he urged.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dr Nentawe Yilwatda of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barr. Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Luka Pampe of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) were present at the town hall

Other candidates who attended the event were Sam Abashe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Solomon Chendan of the African Democratic Party (ADP) Ponyah Ibrahim of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
