Australia triumphed in an 11-goal thriller Sunday evening, in what is the game with the second most goals scored in the history of the Women's Olympic Football Tournament.
The Aussies came from 5-2 down to beat the Shipolopolo of Zambia 6-5, in an exhilerating game.
Zambia's Barbra Banda scored the first of the eleven goals with a dipping 30-yard drive but Australia equalised through Alanna Kennedy while Racheal Kundananji and Banda put the Copper Queens ahead with a goal each.
Banda, an army officer in her country Zambia, benefitted from a ricochet of the ball as the ball loops into the net for her hat-trick, making her the first woman score three hat-tricks at the Olympics.
Kundananji from a header from her second of the game in the 55th minute to make it 5-2; but a Ngambo Musole unfortunate own goal, a Steph Catley brace and late Michelle Heyman strike completed a comeback for the Maltida.
