Germany women beat Spain 1-0 on Friday evening to win the bronze medal of the 2024 Olympics football tournament.
Giulia Gwinn's penalty deep into the second half secured the victory for Germany who have now finished on the podium at five of the six Women’s Olympic Football Tournaments in which they have participated.
In total, four of those have earned bronzes accompanying the gold won they lifted at the Rio 2016 Games.
Alexia Putellas lost a late penalty that could have taken the game to extra time.
Germany started brightly in the game but conceded possession to the skilful Spaniards who were looking to add the Olympic gold medal to the FIFA World Cup they won in 2023.
The dominance of Montserrat Tome’s Spanish side continued after the break, with Kathrin Hendrich denying Paralluelo with a great challenge while Athenea del Castillo directed his shot off target.
Seven minutes were added in regulation time but the Spanish side was not able to restore parity after the penalty miss.
