Nigeria's 'golden girl' in the 200m women's athletics event of the Paris Olympics, Favour Ofili, missed out of a podium finish Tuesday night, in the final of her event at the Stade de France, reports Allnews.ng.
Ofili finished in second place after the semifinals race on Monday night and there was real buzz ahead of Tuesday's final in the women's 200m but the Nigerian claimed the sixth spot to miss out.
There was initially some confusion about Ofili's position - whether fourth or sixth - but it was the former.
The African record holder was omitted from the 100m race due to administrarive error during the registration of athletes despite qualifying for it.
After delivering a superb race in the semifinals, there was hope that the 100m error by the Nigeria Olympic Committe could be a blessing in disguise.
Tuesday night's race an ultimately gold medal was won by American Gabby Thomas who denied denying silver medallist Julien Alfred a sprint double.
The Saint Lucien star won the 100m women's gold on Monday.
