3 Ways To Track Your Stolen Phone

3 Ways To Track Your Stolen Phone

It is really frustrating and annoying to lose your phone at these difficult times, as you not only worried about how to retrieve all your contacts, you also have to start worrying about trying to get money to buy a new phone.

There is a glimmer of hope if you ever find yourself in such a situation. Recovering your stolen or missing phone will be a bit easier if you've prepared beforehand for the possibility of your phone being stolen or if you act fast enough.

Below are the three methods which you can adopt for you to track the location of your stolen smartphone so you can retrieve it.

1. Tracking and Monitoring Apps

There are a variety of apps that can help you retrieve your stolen or missing your phone. However, you will need to have had the app already installed on your phone before the unfortunate incident.

Tracking and monitoring apps such as mSPY, FlexySPY, and the likes, have a lot of features that make you get your stolen phone's location easily. With these apps, you can get the exact map and satellite image location of where your smartphone is/has been, remotely ring out your device even if it is on silent (this comes in handy when, for example, you suddenly cannot find your smartphone in your house), remotely lock your phone with a new password or security code and display a recovery message (or contact information) on the display.

In fact, wherever you are, you can remotely wipe all the data on the missing device at the click of a button if all recovery efforts prove futile.

2. Using Google

Google offers a service known as "Finf MyDevice". This service is very effective for you to easily retrieve your phone. It was previously known as Android Device Manager (ADM). The "Find My Device" can be used to locate, track, and recover Android devices (smartphone, tablet, smartwatch) — only if the device is connected to a Google Account, connected to the internet, and is switched on.

The service is free through a direct “Find My Device” search on Google. The "Find My Device" service enables you to locate places where your device has been, erase device data, lock and secure device and also ring your device.

You can also get the "Find My Device" app on Google Play Store.

3. Using IMEI Number

The final method that can be used to recover your missing smartphone is by accessing the device’s IMEI number. IMEI is an abbreviation for International Mobile Equipment Identity.

The IMEI is a 15-digit number used for several proposes, one of which is for tracking and recovering stolen smartphones by GSM network providers and authorities to tracking missing and stolen smartphones.

This IMEI number is usually attached to a new smartphone box, (in the battery compartment), and “on the phone”. You can also know your IMEI number by simply dialing "*#06#". Make sure you properly correctly note the IMEI number of your phone beforehand or you won't be able to use this method to search for your phone if it eventually gets missing.

You need to know that each time you use a mobile phone to make/receive calls or send SMS, the IMEI number is sent to the network base station by phone. This is what makes tracking by IMEI possible.

Successfully tracking a device using an IMEI number usually involves the use of sophisticated hardware which is mostly adopted by law enforcement agencies, network providers, or anyone with access to such equipment.

It is important to note that most Mobile Apps claim to track phones by using IMEI but almost all of them don't work going by the reviews below those apps. Therefore, if method 1 and 2 fail to help track and recover your missing or stolen device, the best option is to contact the police. However, you will need your IMEI number in the police report for them to be able to successfully track your phone.

You also can contact your network provider but you will also need to give them your IMEI number to block (blacklist) the phone. This will render the phone useless to the thief.

After the retrieval of the phone, you can request for the phone to be unblocked (whitelisted).

These are the three available ways to track a stolen phone. However, if you know any other method, kindly share it with us in the comment section.
