On Wednesday, August 12, an Ogun State High Court sentenced a 35-year-old man, Ugochukwu Obiakor, to 25 years imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old girl.
The prosecution counsel and Director of Legal Drafting in Ogun, James Mafe, had earlier told the court that Obiakor committed the crime on September 4, 2017, at Omu-Aleku Village in the Mowe area of Ogun state.

Mafe said the convict had unlawful sexual intercourse with the girl after dragging her from her mother’s shop into an uncompleted building.
He disclosed that the medical examination conducted on the girl confirmed that her hymen was broken in the process.
According to the Prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 32 of the Child Rights Law of Ogun, 2006.
Obiakor had earlier pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge filed against him.
However, the court found him guilty of the charge and convicted him for having forceful sexual intercourse with the 11-year-old girl.
In her judgment, the Ogun Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, said evidence presented before the court by the prosecution was tenable, saying she found the convict guilty as charged.
Dipeolu sentenced the convict to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour.
