The Federal Government has received 4.2 million Euros looted funds recovered from the family members and associates of former Delta Governor, James Ibori by the British Government.
The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who confirmed this development on Tuesday, said the amount has been credited into the designated Federal Government account with naira equivalent.
This is contained in a statement issued by Malami’s spokesman, Dr. Umar Gwandu.
“The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the repatriation of the Ibori loot on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“The development, according to Malami, was a demonstration of the recognition of reputation Nigeria earns through records of management of recovered monies, stolen in the execution of public-oriented projects.”
Recall that on March 9, Nigeria and the UK signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Abuja to repatriate the money looted by James Ibori when he was governor of Delta,
The money, stashed in the UK was recovered by the British government from Ibori, his friends, and family members.
At the signing of the MOU, Attorney-General, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, said the money would be committed to completing the Second Niger Bridge, the Abuja-Kano Highway, and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
