A 4.6 magnitude earthquake hit Kabul, Afghanistan capital, on Monday, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
The quake shook so violently that residents thought that an explosion had gone off somewhere in the city, although, there were no casualties recorded immediately after the quake occurred at 8:36 pm.
Assessing the depth of the earthquake, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said that it was only as deep as 7.7 kilometres, with the quake's epicentre at Paghman, a district in the province of Kabul.

Afghan residents are no earthquake virgins, as a 6.2 magnitude earthquake rocked the northern part of the country in 2018, and the impact of the quake was felt as far away as Dushanbe (Capital of Tajikistan) and Islamabad (Pakistan's capital).
Another earthquake with a 7.5 magnitude in 2015 killed 400 people in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Experts have warned authorities in Afghanistan of a more proactive approach in its preparedness against such events.
