40-year-old man apprehended in Onitsha for raping minor

On Thursday, the Anambra State Government nabbed Anietie Tim, a 40-year-old man, for raping a 14-year-old girl in Onitsha.

The arrest occurred after the suspect avoided Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Children's Welfare agents.

During interrogation, the suspect, who is from Etinan in Akwa Ibom State, stated that he had no idea the victim was a juvenile that the girl was the one luring him, and that as a full-blooded male, he had to react to her overtures.

He said: “She was my girlfriend, and she was always feeling hungry as her family was starving her, so she always comes to me.”

Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, questioned the suspect in her office and ordered that he be given over to the police.

She said: “He will be appearing before the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka to answer for his crime.

“The incident happened in 2022 after which the suspect has been evading arrest. He had on different occasions threatened the mother of his victim claiming to be untouchable.”

In a related report, the Ogun State Police Command has announced that it has arrested one Gadafi Bala for alleged rape. This is as the command also vowed that no person involved in Gender Based Violence (GBV) will evade punishment.

The statement signed by Omolola Odutola revealed that Gadafi raped a JSS 1 student on Thursday, March 28, 2024.

"A report received from Ifesowapo Otitoloju CDA in Ilara Ogijo that a 14-year-old female student a JSS 1 student of Aderegun Community High School, OGIJO was rapped by one Gadafi Bala ”m” aged 24 years old, on the 28th of March 2024.

"As soon as the Division Police Officer Ogijo received the report, he visited the victim and issued an examination form for evaluation, which result proved positive that one Gadafi had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim.

"Sequel to the result being confirmed by a doctor of a government-owned hospital, Gadafi was promptly arrested."
