Not less than 50 bodies of jade miners in the northern part of Myanmar were recovered from under a thick sheet of mud following a landslide that rocked the city.
Miners die in numbers yearly while working to scrape jade that will be exported to China, as jade is a highly prized gem in China.
Northern Myanmar experienced an early landslide on Thursday after heavy rainfall, as disclosed by the Myanmar fire department on Facebook.

The department said, “The jade miners were smothered by a wave of mud. The search and rescue process is still ongoing.”
As displayed on Facebook, some search and rescue team had been dispatched to the scene to recover the miners from the wreck of mud.
The Hpakant area, where the mudslide happened, is not unfamiliar with landslides, as the area is prone to mudslides, and the hollowed-out holes in the area makes it worse, as the earth is loosened.
The jade industry, according to Global Witness, is worth $31 billion, a 2014 estimate.
