55 Killed As 'Devil' Takes Over Bauchi Roads

There has been fear over road accidents across Bauchi State with the rise in the number of road crashes where many lives have been lost.

Yusuf Abdullahi, the State Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) noted that “The fact is that the "devil" has taken over roads in Bauchi State and we need to reclaim the roads.

"The situation is terrible that it was a case of one death per day in November. We had about 55 deaths in the state. This is so disturbing and something has to be done."

Also, the Corps sector Public Relations Officer (PRO), Rilwanu Suleiman Birni Kebbi, said that Nigerians should not allow drivers to joke with their lives through reckless driving. He attributed the road accidents to over-speeding, violation of traffic rules, among others.

Air Commodore Tijjani Baba Gamawa (rtd), the chairman of Bauchi State Road Transport Agency (BAROTA), said on his part that accidents occur largely due to reckless driving by drivers, adding that some drivers do ride under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

He concluded that most of these accidents are avoidable if drivers avoid reckless driving and also obey traffic laws.

Not less than 55 lives have been lost to accidents from 1st November till date.
