6 Most Expensive Spirits You Need To Know

6 Most Expensive Spirits You Need To Know

Spirits are the highest ABV products of yeast-based fermentation of a fermentable sugar-containing liquid. Unlike beer or wine, they are the result of a second step called "distillation" that fortifies them even further.

Here are some of the world's most expensive spirits you need to know.

 6. Remy Martin Black Pearl Louis XIII – ($165,000)

This Cognac is a blend of 1,200 eaux-de-vie aged between 40 and 115 years. There were only 786 decanters made because that is the amount of Cognac contained in a single tierçon or barrel.

5. Bowmore 1957 – ($165,000)

Bowmore released twelve bottles of their 54-year-old scotch in 2012. The offering from the renowned Islay distillery spent the first forty-three years in a sherry cask and the last eleven in a bourbon cask.

4. Nun’s Island, Galway Distillery, 20-Year-Old Pure Pot Still Whiskey – ($200,000)

The Galway Distillery in Ireland closed its doors for good in 1908, more than a century ago. This whiskey was distilled in the 1800s and is regarded as one of the smoothest and most flavorful whiskies available. The fact that there are no known unopened bottles of this Irish whiskey contributes to its high price.

3. The Dalmore 62 – ($200,000)

The Dalmore Distillery in Scotland released this sixty-two-year-old whisky in 2012. Dalmore limited the bottling of this offering to only twelve bottles due to the rarity of a whisky of this age. Good luck locating one.

2. The Macallan “M” six litre in Lalique – ($628,000)

The Macallan is well-known and one of the world's most sought-after and collected whiskies. In January, this single malt sold for just under $630,000 at a Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong. The bottle itself is a work of art. The crystal decanter stands 28 inches tall and holds 6 liters of whisky. The liquid inside is a blend of sherry casks aged between twenty-five and seventy-five years old.

1. Mendis Coconut Brandy – ($1 million)

Mendis Coconut Brandy first appeared in the spirits world in 2007. This is the first clear brandy made from coconuts, aged in Halmilla casks.
