A Madagascar court convicted six people Friday over plots to kill the country's President Andry Rajoelina.
A high court judge in Madagascar said the six, who also included a retired army general, were guilty of charges to overthrow the government and with a view to threatening the president’s life.
The suspects were arrested in July and August of this year, and all have now been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison with hard labour.
Andry Rajoelina first seized power in a March 2009 coup, as he remained in control at the head of a transitional government until 2014.
