6 Types Of Bosses And How To Work With Them

Many times the output of an employee hinges on the disposition of the employer, and sometimes, employees are just employees, no matter the type of boss they have.

Different work places with their different employer-employee relationships, and these relationships mostly determine the length of service of an employee at their place of work.

In this article, we will be looking into 6 different types of bosses at workplaces, and how to work with them.

This is very vital if you are a job seeker or already in the employ of an organization but find it hard to cope, hopefully this helps.

1. The Nice boss: These ones ensure that everyone at the office is treated fairly. They do not breathe down on your neck while you work, they give you a wide berth and give room for mistakes (although, there is a limited amount of errors that are allowed).

They listen to you as you suggest ideas. They make sure to take particular interest in the lives of their employees outside of work.

These types are rare. If you ever have a boss like this, do not misuse this gift.

2. The Micromanager: They are never hands-off. They are always watching your every move. They always inspire fear in the hearts of poor employees who are always made to work under pressure and oftentimes make errors that would invariably lead to an assasination of your character, making your legs give under the weight of their watchful eyes, trained on you every minute.

3. Compulsive Bosses: These ones make you feel like you aren't doing enough even when your plate is clear. They never take a sick leave nor go on vacations. They arrive at the office before anyone and leave after everyone has clocked off.

Working with these types of bosses can be very difficult, as they will cause you to work as hard as they do (they will always outwork you, no matter what). What can you do? Deliver your work on time never neglecting deadlines.

4. The Idealistic Boss: Bosses in this category have a solid dream, they see a bright future for the company but aren't clear on how to go about achieving that dream they have for the company and require your assistance on attaining that idealistic goal, making it a reality.

If you find that your boss is one of such bosses, you would need to make sure that you show as much ambition and be motivated to achieve that goal as they are.

5. The Clueless Boss: He/she knows next to nothing, certainly someone that comes across as someone who has no business helming a business. They have no idea how things are run in the company and only rely on their employees to guide them through the day-to-day activities of the company.

Just because they do not know does not make them stupid, so, never take their supposed ignorance for stupidity. Make sure to keep them close and try to make things as clear as you possibly can for them.

6. The Talent Spotter: They know who can and cannot do the job. They identify employees that they know are capable of carrying out an assignment without any cause for worry, as they know that they will do so without needing much support.

If you are looking to augment your resume, these bosses are the kind of people you would need to notice you. Prepare to always be called upon to execute tasks.

In Conclusion

Whatever boss you find yourself with is one you would need to contend with because there's little you can do to influence their attitude. All you can do is to ensure that you work according to their pace, as much as possible because they have goals to achieve and you will want to be that employee that supports them on their journey to greatness.

Never try to appear better than your boss, as that is a quick way to lose your job.
