The New York Police has said that a 61-year-old Asian man, Yao Pan Ma, who was brutally attacked last year has died of his injuries.
He died eight months after a man was caught on video kicking his head repeatedly.
The attack happened on April 23 at Harlem, United States, when Yao Pan Ma was collecting cans to pay rent. A man struck him from behind, which caused him to fall to the ground. Surveillance footage showed the man head stomping Ma while he was on the ground.
Following the incident, Ma was in coma for eight months, and was reported dead on December 23.
On Saturday, the New York City police added that the attack has now been deemed a homicide and authorities are still investigating the incident.
The Police arrested 50-years-old Jarrod Powell on April 27 in connection with the attack. He is facing multiple felony charges for attempted murder and hate crime.
NBC News made it known that it is possible that Powell's charges will be upgraded following the homicide ruling.
