8 Dead, Hundreds Injured At Travis Scott's Astroworld Festiv

At least eight people have died and hundreds of others were injured following a crowd surge at the third annual Astroworld music festival in Houston, Texas on Friday night.

According to Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña, panic broke out on the night of November 5 during Travis Scott's performance when attendees of approximately 50, 000 began pressing towards the front of the stage at around 9 p.m.

23 people, including 11 patients in cardiac arrest, were taken to nearby hospitals. Roughly 300 people were treated for injuries throughout the event Friday at an on-site field hospital.

Reacting to the incident of Saturday, Travis Scott said he was devastated by the unfortunate incident and he is committed to working together with the Houston community to support the families in need.

"My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival," he wrote in a tweet.

"Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life.”

“I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need," he added.

The festival, which is in its third year, kicked off Friday and was expected to be a two-day event, but officials said Saturday's lineup had been canceled.

Astroworld is a music festival founded by Scott and held in Houston on the former site of Six Flags Astroworld. This year is its third iteration, as it was canceled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The festival was first launched by Scott in 2018, the same year that his studio album of the same name was released.

Three people were trampled and hospitalized in November 2019 as thousands rushed to get into the Astroworld Festival. They were all sent to the hospital with leg injuries, and the event continued as planned.
