The death of Hachalu Hundessa, a popular singer in Ethiopia sparked violent protests, leading to the death of about 81 people in the country’s Oromia region.
AllNews understands that most of those killed during the protest were police officers and protesters.
Hundessa was said to have been shot by unidentified gunmen on Monday.
His death, however, led to protests in Addis Ababa, the capital city and Oromia region.
Reports say the authorities had on Tuesday, shut down the internet in parts of the country, to curtail the protest.
Until his death, the popular singer was said to be a human rights advocate who fought for the rights of the country’s Oromo ethnic group.
He was also said to be a popular voice in protests against the country’s previous prime minister in 2018.
