82,722 Women Empowered On Artisanship, ICT

Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen has disclosed that over 82,722 female have been empowered through training on artisanship, Information Communication Technology (ICT) amongst others between 2015-2022.

Tallen made the disclosure on Monday during the 13th edition of the President Muhammadu Buhari's Scorecard Series organised by the Federal Ministry of Information (FMI) in Abuja.

The Minister said through the supports of various MDAs and partners, women, children and vulnerable groups have been trained on various skills as part of empowerment strategy by President Muhammadu Buhari to lift 100 million out of poverty.

She added that 144 development centres across the federation were reactivated for the training and empowerment of women, especially those in the rural areas between 2015 to 2022.

"144 women development centres have been reactivated across the country from 2015 to 2022, with a total of 18,000 trained on regular vocational training, tailoring, catering, cosmetology, household hygiene and products.

"We have trained 34,000 between 2015-2022. We also trained female artisanship trained in generator repairs, air conditions, electrical repairs and installations, pipping, masonry trained 1185. 

"During the Post COVID-19, we trained 221 females in 18 states, while the Gender start-up support scheme for female entrepreneurs training in some states 430 were trained. 

"Training and empowerment of rehabilitated female drug users across the geopolitical zone were 200.

"Children vocational skills training program, Catch them young were 750 through tailoring, cooking, house keeping, interior decoration, self-esteem etiquette.

"Women economic empowerment programe trained 5,000 IDPs.

"ICT training courses for 850, while ICT for female farmers 190.

"ICT training for PWDs 368, mobile phones and laptop repairs 40 female artisans, for young girls in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child 690.

"Training for female mechanics 155 females, ICT infrastructure training for youths, women and girls in the six geopolitical zone have trained 293.

"ICT for vocational students 1500, ICT empowerment training programe with support from strategic partners 830.

"National Innovative Diploma engineering training 44, ICT empowerment training for women and youths across federation 294, Summer holiday training on ICT for children trained 280. 

"Giving us a total of 82,722 between 2015 to 2022," she said.

On Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), Tallen said 34 states have so far domesticated the Child Rights Act and Violence Against Persons Prohibition VAPP Act to eliminate the menace in totality.

She added that safe spaces had been established in the FCT and across 33 states for survivors of GBV to get psycho-social support, skills acquisition, amongst others to cushion the effects.
