Nigerian singer 9ice has shared his first encounter with All Progressive Council (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a video he shared via his Instagram story, he said that he met Asiwaju at a campaign in Ibadan during late Abiola Ajimobi’s second term.
According to him, Asiwaju singled him out among the many stars on stage to request his number.
9ice said that it was a huge deal for him because Asiwaju does not seem like someone who watches TV or knows who he (9ice) is.
The ‘Gongo Aso’ crooner said that he interpreted that moment to be that Asiwaju is capable of having a one-on-one conversation with Nigerians if he gets elected as the president.
“My Asiwaju experience was a long time ago, it was during the Ajimobi second term.
“We were doing a campaign at Mapo hall and there were loads of stars on stage.
"Someone pointed at me and said, ‘You come here, I want your number’.
“I was looking behind because I thought Asiwaju was talking to someone behind me. He said no, you.
“It was a big deal for me because how can someone so busy, how can someone with that repute know who 9ice is?
“It’s like a different world entirely because he is so busy. I don’t think that he has time to watch TV.
“Out of about 5-10 thousand people, he pointed me out and said ‘You this man, I want your number.
"Who am I for Asiwaju to be requesting for my number”
“It shows that he is a leader that can have a one-on-one with Nigerians.
"If a leader can recognize me, it goes a long way,” 9ice said.
In 9ice's 2016 song ‘Oro’ from his 8th studio album threw clear shots at Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Defense minister Theophilus Danjuma.
“Eso fun Obansojo kosagbe je mowoo/Eso fun Tinubu koye paro mo/Eso fun Abubakar pelu Danjuma koyoleja/Eso fun Femi omo Fani Kayode koyole da ooo”
“Tell Obasanjo to calm down/Tell Tinubu to stop lying/Tell Abubakar and Danjuma to stop stealing/Tell Femi Fani Kayode to stop being a coward”, the lyrics read.
He also continued by saying that he is a brave man, so he is not afraid of being attacked by black magic.
