‘Abba Kyari Should Be Doubly Punished' - Aisha

Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu says embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari should be extremely punished.

Kyari is accused of taking bribes from Nigerian Instagram celebrity Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Ray Hushpuppi, who has pleaded guilty to money laundering in the US. Kyari has denied the allegations though.

In a statement last week, US officials said that Hushpuppi had alleged in an affidavit that he got Kyari to arrest a syndicate member with whom he had fallen out.

Kyari allegedly sent Hushpuppi details of a bank account in which he could deposit payment for the arrest, the statement said.

Nigeria's Police Service Commission - which is in charge of disciplining officers - said Kyari would remain suspended pending the outcome of investigations. He has since been replaced with Tunji Disu.

Yesufu - known for her bluntness - described Kyari as "a low life, petty, unintelligent criminal snitch entrusted with sensitive position".

"What has the crimes Abba Kyari has been accused of got to do with Nigeria's sovereignty? What nonsense is all these? A low life, petty, unintelligent criminal snitch entrusted with sensitive position should be doubly punished. One for being a criminal Two for being so daft!" Yesufu wrote on her verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.
