Abeokuta: Armed Policemen Storm CBN Branch

Nigerian Police

Reports available to AllNews Nigeria indicates that there is heavy security presence at the Abeokuta Branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Armed police personnel in the early hours of Monday were observed prowling the apex bank branch at Okelewo, Abeokuta to avert possible attacks by criminal elements.

AllNews Nigeria learnt that there was an intelligence report that some individuals might attack the bank over their inability to access the newly redesigned Naira notes.

The armed policemen were positioned at strategic locations to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Some commercial banks within Abeokuta also restricted access to their premises over the fear of being attacked by angry customers.

In most banks, customers were only allowed to use Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) instead of going into the banking halls for transactions.

It was reported that similar attacks were recorded in other parts of the country last week especially in Ibadan where aife was lost.

The scarcity of the new Naira notes is still biting hard in Ogun State and this has affected businesses and other activities.
